10 Amazing Places for Your First Solo Trip

Ready to take the plunge on a solo adventure? Nothing changes your life more than travel, traveling alone allows you to fully take in the new place connect with the people and culture in a deep and meaningful way.

Ready? Where should you go? I’ve pulled together a list of some great places to travel alone!

1.  Reykjavik – Iceland

Reykjavik, Iceland has all the things you want in a solo travel destination. The city is quite walkable – with quite little shops an amazing food.  You can get out of the city for some real adventures, a drive along the famous Golden Circle to check out the waterfalls and the Diamond Beach, or a tour of a local sheep farm or a walk through an ice cave.  Wow! The city is safe, Iceland has been ranked #1 on the Global Peace Index.  And don’t forget about the Blue Lagoon and a chance to see the Northern Lights!

Iceland can give you adventure and the confidence to explore the city independently being one of the best places for a woman to travel alone.

2.  Bali – Indonesia

Bali is full of spectacular beaches, There is peace and relaxation to be found no matter where you go or what you do in this scenic and tranquil destination. Bali is also a great location for budget travelers, with lots of inexpensive options for food and lodging.  If you are looking for a location that caters to sunny beach days, relaxation on a budget, Bali is perfect.

The city is a popular destination for young travelers, so connecting with other travelers will be easy – if you want to have some company for portions of your solo adventure. You’ll find opportunities to enjoy peaceful moments alone and connect with like-minded travelers that will enrich your journey.

3.  South Island, New Zealand

Oh, the adventure of South Island, with bungy jumping, whitewater rafting, skydiving, kayaking, hiking and more. You can take a “road-trip” thru South Island’s beauty and diversity. Visit its two largest cities, Christchurch and Dunedin, Mt Cook National Park and Te Anau the gateway to Fiordland National Park. One of the world’s most beautiful places full of glaciers, blue lakes and breath taking mountains. Want to let someone else drive? Take the TranzAlpine Scenic Train as you return to Christchurch to cross the Southern Alp.

South Island is great option if you seek adventure on your solo trip.

4.  Rome – Italy

Whether you want to retrace the steps of Lizzy McGuire or have a whirlwind adventure like Audrey Hepburn as Ann in Roman Holiday, Rome is a beautiful city full of excitement and picturesque sites, such as; the Pantheon, the Coliseum, Vatican City and Saint Peter’s Basilica.

Put on a pair of comfortable shoes and just stroll through the city, taking in the romantic piazzas and cobblestoned streets, you will find you can be bold and adventurous in this historic city.

5.  New York City, United States

The city never sleeps, New York City is a perfect place for a single woman to explore the streets of Manhattan taking in the iconic landmarks, and world-famous museums.  Going alone means you can wander the streets of Manhattan at your leisure and without the pressure of anyone else telling you which famous sights to visit. You can pop into a shop or café when the mood beckons you. So many places to people watch, Central Park full of runners and families with strollers and dog walkers – people just living their lives.

You can connect with other travelers on a walking tour of Central Park or a docent led tour at one of the local museums.  Or you can get lost in the crowd and enjoy the solitude.

6.  Palawan – Philippines

Palawan, one of the most tempting and splendid places to visit in the Philippines.  It is packed with extraordinary natural wonders, such as the Puerto Princesa Underground River, the towering limestone cliffs and Coron Islands.  The people of Palawan are friendly and welcoming.

To make things even better, the people in Palawan are rather friendly and approachable.  The food is spectacular with tons fresh seafood and a myriad of international flavors.  Take your solo adventure to Palawan with its gorgeous beaches and friendly locals.

7.  Copenhagen – Denmark

Copenhagen is one of the safest and places to travel alone in Europe and Denmark has been rated one of the happiest countries in the world – making it a perfect place for solo travel.  The city will entertain you with its nightlife, culture, shopping and beautiful architecture – in an easily navigable city. Making your journey more pleasurable, rent a bicycle and roll through the city’s charming streets like the free and independent woman you are!

8.  Costa Rica

The affordable, adventure packed Costa Rica!  Perfect for a solo trip.  You’ll find adventures like; kayaking, surfing, zip-lining, and visiting volcanoes and Mayan ruins.

Costa Rica is also full of warm-hearted and helpful locals, making it one of the best places to travel alone for females.  There are a numerous affordable lodging options, allowing you to stay a little longer and get to know the people and their culture language.

9.  Montreal – Canada

Canadians, famous for their warmth and friendliness, makes Montreal one of the safest and best places to travel alone in North America.

The city is full of cobblestone streets, the scenic riverfront Old Port, and history museums.  Montreal is also chalked full of grand old French restaurants and oodles of bars and nightclubs.

Take in the culture, eat some amazing food and if you have time, take a day trip to stand in awe of the iconic Niagara Falls

10.      Rajasthan – India

Rajasthan is perfect choice for your solo journey to India.  The city is full of historic treasures like palaces and forts. It also makes a starting point to visit Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Udaipur, and Jodphur.

There are plenty of inexpensive and high-quality lodging in Rajasthan making it a perfect choice for your adventure to India.
