Time-blocking with kittens

I am fostering kittens, this is Pumpkin. He’s super helpful when taking photos!

Monday morning and I got sucked into the social media vortex! AHHHH!!! I had installed the Freedom app on my phone and I have been using it at night. It cuts me off my social media feed after hours and doesn’t allow me to check the site again until I at least have my coffee in the morning. But that didn’t help me this morning. There I was scrolling through Twitter and then back on Facebook for a good 45 minutes! Grrrr…I hate that it suck me in and I get taken down the rabbit hole — hours can be lost. With the election just weeks away and all that is going on in the world, there is always something new happening. It might funny or infuriating, but I don’t need to see it RIGHT NOW. I can catch up later.

I just blocked my laptop and phone from all social media for the next 2-hours. Let’s see how that works! I am hopeful, that I will not only get more work done, but feel more sane.

This week I am taking a break from my regular schedule and focusing on prepping things. My mom is coming to visit and I need to have my ducks in a row so I can stay focused when she is here. My mom is my biggest cheerleader and the best accountability coach you’ve ever had! I just have to let her know what I am trying to accomplish or any of my goals or dreams and she is right there beside me cheering me on, she offers help and support all along the way. But she is also my best friend – we have wonderful conversations, I love to work on projects with my mom, we create things, we cook and cook up ideas! All of that is easily distracting from the work I need to do. It is easy to skip writing because I would rather make French onion soup with my mom, or recover the patio or chairs or paint my dresser. There are endless things we find ourselves doing. I have to find a way to keep myself on track.

My initial thought is to use time-blocking. This way I can set aside a certain number of hours each week to work on things with my mom and still get my work done. And with my mom here, if I don’t have anything specific to work on, I will be talking with her or doing some form of procrast-a-project

One minute — gotta go create this time-blocking schedule…..

. . . . . . . . . . . . I’ve got my block schedule done and all color coded! Ok, so that took a little more than a minute. More like 30-minutes. I spent more time trying to think of all the categories of work that I do during the week. This is my initial stab in the dark – I am sure I will have to revise and edit this as I go along. And there will also be random meetings along the way that interfere. My goal is to have a plan of what I am supposed to be focusing on during the day. If I don’t have a specific meeting or task that needs to be address at the moment, this will give me a focus for a few hours. I will keep you all posted on how this works out. Especially, with my mom visiting — will I be able to stick to this schedule? Yes! Of course, remember my mom is also my accountability coach, she will say, “aren’t you supposed to be writing right now?” I LOVE her!

I hope you all have a fabulous and productive week!
