I love books that have a purposeful journey, our book club, Wanderlust Book Club, has read so many of these types of books such as;
- The Sun is a Compass, by Caroline Van Hemert (one of my all-time favorites)
- To The River, by Olivia Laing
- Boundless, by Kathleen Winter
- Walking the Amazon, by Ed Stafford
- The Black Penguin, by Andrew Evans
This one has bicycles and butterflies!

Bicycling with Butterflies: My 10,201-Mile Journey Following the Monarch Migration
by Sara Dykman
Sara is an outdoor educator and field researcher, the book chronicles her 10,000 mile, 9-month journey to follow the migration of the Monarch butterflies.
My friend April and I, host a YouTube Channel, The Travel Collective, where we interview real people about their real travel stories. We met and interviewed Sara for an episode in June. Check out her interview here.
I am eager to read more about her journey and all of the folks who she met along the way, the farmers, citizen scientists, enthusiastic schoolchildren and fellow researchers. This is a journey to support Sara’s passion and I expect that to pour out onto the pages. I can’t wait to get started on this one.
If you are interested in joining our group to discuss this book, we are meeting on Tuesday, August 24 @ 6 pm PST. You can find out more using the links below.
